This superb dance headdress comes from a great collection of Highlands material that was largely put together in the 1970's. Headdresses like this one originate from the Southern Highlands and were used in ceremonies and the dancer would wear this in conjunction with several others and assistant dancers. It is made from woven cane with eht op having a plume of cassowary feathers and it is decorated with white and red pigments which are flakey with age. It measures approx 70cm in height.
