Antique or Vintage Sepik River Wood Ancestor Board, Papua New Guinea. Beautiful ancestor board with painted stylized face consisting of a downturned mouth, cowrie shell eyes and organic patterns typical of the Sepik River region. The board measures roughly 27" long x 12" across. It seems to me that the metal handle, screwed to the back, was added later to transform the board into a shield. There are small cracks in the wood.
