Antique Papua New Guinea huge wooden head carving with authentic tribesman hair. A unique very rare piece. The carving has a dark patina building up on the back that naturally occurs due to ageing! It's made from PNG's local native tree & other natural items like coloured mud for paint, dried grass & Cowrie shell. The facial features replicate an ancestral family member which is used for many purposes including to repel bad spirits away, initiation rights & ceremonial rituals. Check my pic's above for this item's condition which is remarkable for its age. Headpieces of this size I've just found out were sat on tall branches & tall pieces of wood dug into the ground, these were placed around the tribes sleeping huts to scare of other clans that may try to attack at night.
