Measures 6.5 inches in height and 12 inches in diameter. Mid twentieth century, estimated age. These bowls were bride price items and widely traded. Exquisite incised decorations in the rim including two raised medallions carved with clan insignia. From an Australian source, collected in the sixties.
Guaranteed authentic; original surface patina. Note crack, stable, on one side, otherwise intact. Compare with illustrations of typical Rai Coast bowls in the collection of the Madang Teachers College in a 1975 scarce publication, as shown in page photos. Thanks for looking, good luck.
