It only serves to hint at it's "story", as it was. It would strange if it didn't have any signs of use and age. This is easily a pre-1960's mask and very possibly, much older. The whale or fish effigy at the top of the mask is quite unusual.
I could not find another example of that animal anywhere on the crest of a spirit mask anywhere, in my online research. Eyes are mesmerizing (hinting of a sort of hypnotic state) and the mask displays so stunningly, I'm certain it will evoke greatness in whatever environment it continues to grace, hereafter.
