This rare stone carving comes from the Highlands of New Guinea and depicts a ouroboros a snake biting it's tail which is considered a symbol of fertility. The carving has two serpents depicted one on each side with the eyes and nostrils clearly defined. The piece was collected in the mid 20thC and is large and measures 45cm x 34cm and 10cm thick and weighs 11kgs.
