Large Asmat Drum -'tifa

LARGE ASMAT DRUM -'TIFA' carved wood, both handle and drum decorated with relief carving relate to the'bi pane' or majical mosepiece headhunting symbol. Lizard skin wi cane and rattan.

Traces of coix seeds pressed into beeswax. Bought in 1988 by academic resident in PNG, from the Asmat museum in Merauke, South Coast Irian Jaya N.
