LARGE FEMALE SEPIK SPIRIT FIGURE FROM PAPUA NEW GUINEA. A guardian of the spirit house. Finely carved from heavy tropical hardwood.
Depicts a strong woman spirit with two sets of large cowrie shell eyes. A very fine and impressive example of it's kind.
Transported by traditional canoe to the port at Wewak on the north coast of Papua New Guinea. Most items were collected by ourselves while we were living and working in Papua New Guinea in the 1980's.We are now downsizing from our large old farmhouse to something more manageable for our age. Some carvings have signs of wear and tear due to age. Some have cracking which occurs as a result of taking items from the tropics to a colder, drier environment. Please take a look at our other items from Africa, India, Papua New Guinea, Irian Jaya, Bali and Burma.
