LARGE YAM MASK, Southern Abelam people, Sepik region, Papua New Guinea. This mask is old and beautifully woven, with the sperb bulbous head depicting the head of a cockatoo. The traditional paintwork, black, white and a vibrant orange are still in good condition.
It was collected soon after a yam lining ceremony in the central Wosera ain 1976. Size: 30 x 30 cm (12 x 12).
