Massim Betelnut Mortar and Pestle, Trobriand Islands, Papua New Guinea
Simple and classical example, the pestle with simple face, protruding pursed lips, and classical design elements, rounded terminus (cracked); the mortar with decorated squared base, fluted column and bulbous rim, with classical Massim design elements. Length of pestle: 6 3/4"; Height of mortar: 6 3/4". Collected by an American expat in the 1970's, hence from a Florida estate, no documentation.
