NASSA SHELL AND PIGS TUSK NECKLACE. Jewellery made from shells and animal teeth are used as currencly and traditional wealth objects by the indigenous peoples of Papua New Guinea. They are used in dowries and as compensation for various disputes. Pigs are among the most importent types of traditional wealth in Papua New Guinea.
This piece is rimmed with nassa shell and woven fibre then descends into finely polished pigs tusks. Size: 46 cm (length) 12.5 cm (width).
