Old Papua New Guinea Gulf Marupia Sorcerer's Adornment - Fine Carving. Old Papuan Gulf Marupia sorcerer's adornment, finely carved from dwarf coconut and measuring approximately 11 cm long. A particularly finely carved example with crisp incised decoration. Some of the incisions still retain traces of lime. The mouth retains a small amount of the original bark stopper, indicating that the piece was used rather than made purely for display. There is a very small hole, approximately 3 mm, to one side. This is barely noticeable and does not detract from the overall appearance of the piece. A fine old example showing genuine signs of traditional use.
