Featuring a Papua New Guinea Middle Sepik River large wood carved statue. Made in Yamuk Village, hand carved and painted depicts a bird; likely a rooster or Guinea fowl; made in the 1970's. Shows a patterned torso, orange and white feathered wings, and a red/orange toned crown with a black and white face. Typical of the Yamuk region where birds are usually featured in their sculptures. In pre owned condition with several areas with discoloration and paint loss, hairline cracks vertically on the torso and rear, white spots on the rear along with other wear.
No major chips or cracks and the wear is consistent with the vintage and expected for these pieces. Genuine Vintage/Antique Wood Sculptures and Statues from PNG are some of the most sought after pieces from collectors worldwide due to the artistic features, significance and variety. I've seen several hornbills and other birds but I do believe the rooster or Guinea fowl features in a sculpture is a rarity. This is a great addition for any collector of PNG sculptures and statues and a fantastic/unique decor piece for any setting.
