This is a wonderful Vintage Red and Blue Natural Dyed Bush Twine, Nassa and Cowrie Shell Head Ornament from the Abelam People, Sepik River, Papua New Guinea. This is worn only by men of status in a village. The Headdress consists of woven twine with small Nassa Shells and Cowries Shells sewn onto the fiber with red and blue natural plant dyes. Shells were currency in Papua New Guinea. This was significant and important to the man who created it and wore it. This belt would be a fabulous addition to your collection or home.
