This is a wonderful 30 year old hand carved and painted wood Decorative Clan board from the April River Region of Papua New Guinea. Ceremonial Boards are striking, boldly colored boards and are never taken into battle, but are displayed prominently inside the dwelling to ward off spirits from enemy villages.
The designs derive from clan signs and bush and animal spirits. Men sleep under them in the forest to ward of harmful bush spirits. This board is One of Kind and so represents the craftsmanship and talent handed down through generations.
These clan symbols tell what tribe dwells in the area. This would be beautiful on your wall at home as well as being a great addition to your collection. Late 20th-Century Shows age and Natural Wear.
