This is a Vintage and Very Unique Fish Bone Fishing Hook from the Siassi Island, Huon Gulf, Papua New Guinea. This finishing hook is carved from a fish jaw bone. The hook is attached to the bone with natural fiber. The hook is carved to a point with serrated edges near the top. The humble fish hook derives its form from its function: to catch fish.
But in cultures where fishing is central to the way of life, the crafting of fish hooks is elevated to a form of art. This is a beautifully made fish hook and would be a wonderful addition to your collection. Mid-20th Century COMES ON A STAND Shows some age, but is in good condition.
