Papua New Guinea Kamanibit Tribe Male Ancestor Figure Statue Carved Wood Shell Eyes. This was made by the Kamanibit Jungle Tribe of the Sepic River area of Papau New Guinea. It is of wood and blackened and colored with earth pigments. The eyes are of shell as shown. It was used at the time of the death of an elder tribal member and used to protect the hut from evil spirits and also as a place for friendly ancestors spirits to rest if they come to the home. This one has the original tag from the gallery.
