Papua New Guinea Trobiand Islands Carved Wood Turtle Bowl Or Paint Pallette - First Half Twentieth C. A carved wooden bowl or possibly paint palette from the Trobiand Islands situated in the Massim area off the East Coast of Papua New Guinea.
The piece is carved in the form of a turtle with a head and tail with the sides in the form of fish. The head, tail, and sides, are incised both to the top and bottom with the decoration filled with white lime to emphasise the detail. The bowl is unmarked and believed to date to the first half of the twentieth century. 42cm long (head to tail), 24cm wide, 4cm high.All items will be well packed and securely boxed.
