This striking ethnographic piece is hand-braided from natural plant fiber and decorated with a series of sharp natural spines or thorns inserted into the woven body of the ornament. The alternating arrangement of the spines creates a dramatic visual effect and reflects traditional Sepik decorative aesthetics. The ornament displays rich age, patina, and wear consistent with age and use. The dark fiber construction and organic thorn elements give the piece a powerful sculptural presence, making it an exceptional addition to collections of Oceanic art, tribal artifacts, ethnographic material, or Papua New Guinea cultural objects.

Materials: Hand-braided plant fiber with natural thorn/spine elements. Type: Ceremonial neck or chest ornament. Condition: Vintage ethnographic condition with expected age-related wear and patina. This direct village provenance provides valuable collecting history rarely available with comparable examples. Traditional Sepik body ornaments were worn during ceremonies, dances, and other cultural events.

Examples with documented field acquisition and village provenance are increasingly difficult to locate and are sought after by collectors of Oceanic and tribal art. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
