Pole Celt, Papua New Guinea

POLE CELT, PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Beautiful stone celt, highly polished, some end blade chips. The exquisitely carved axes were actual working tools within the village/culture where it was made. From a Berkley, California private collection, this stone probably dates to at least 500 BC, according to the original collector. The fine details of this carving suggests the stone was also used for trade purposes.
