This is a fantastically rendered and beautiful RARE Antique Old Tribal Oceanic Papua New Guinea Sepik Wood Statue, from the Sawos region of the Sepik culture in Papua New Guinea. This work depicts an ancestral head totem and is gloriously painted with intricate designs throughout. The front and sides of this sculpture depicted the abstracted profile of a man, while the back of the piece displays a large, stylized fish.
Approximately 24 3/4 inches tall x 9 3/4 inches deep x 4 inches wide. This work has a very old, honest patina. This work has minor paint loss, weathering to wood, scuffing and light chipping throughout please see photos. On the base there is an old museum or collector inventory number that reads: 121.
