A striking Western Highlands war shield collected in New Guinea in the 1970's. The shield is carved from hardwood and has very little convexity with the face painted with bright ochres and the upper section with a deeply engraved design. The centre has a cane boss and the top has a repair to a stable crack with cane. It measures 160cm x 56cm.
