To see more fine oceanic artefacts. This is a stunning very large vintage carved wooden female spirit figure from the Kwoma region, East Sepik Region of New Guinea.

This raw organic ancestor guardian spirit figure is extremely well carved and of classical form with stunning tribal ochres covering the piece. This is a fine old figure of far higher quality than is usually found and is truly a museum quality organic piece. This guardian figure has a thick crusty patina likely from being used in the smoky mens house and would have been used in rituals and to ward off evil spirits. The carving has been flame dried over a fire showcasing its early origins. The age of the piece is estimated between 1950's to 1960's.
