DESCRIPTION This impressive necklace is laden with 33 dog teeth, individually pierced and assembled using traditional weaving techniques. The previous collector had acquired it when working in Papua New Guinea in the 1970's.
It is in good condition overall and the binding is strong and tightly woven. This was part of a collection from the estate of Dr Dan Shaw, CA. Dan Shaw, an American missionary-linguist-anthropologist affiliated with both the APCM and the Summer Institute of Linguistics. Dr Dan Shaw and his family lived with the Samo from 1970 until 1982, learned their language and did translation work. A great rare piece of functional documentation of Papua New Guinea history.
MEASUREMENTS Necklace measures 33 long with 33 teeth and weighs 1.8oz. CONDITION In nice condition with some signs of use commensurate with age (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
