Standing an impressive 59cm high and 32cm wide, this powerful sculpture depicts a victorious warrior reverently holding the severed head of his defeated adversary. While individual ancestor figures are relatively common, narrative carvings portraying acts of warfare or trophy-head symbolism are considerably scarcer, making this an especially desirable composition for collectors of Oceanic and ethnographic art.
The sculptor has masterfully balanced elongated proportions with expressive carving, producing a work that is both sculptural and symbolic.
