Vintage Latmul/Yamok Tribe Sepic River Papua New Guinea Effigy Head Bone Dagger c 1946. It is very good shape for its age.

The head is made of natural cray, sun hardened and it has a sharp bone tip as shown. The Latmul are a large ethnic group of about 10,000 people inhabiting some two-dozen politically autonomous villages along the middle Sepik River in Papua New Guinea. The Yamok people are of one of these villages. The communities are roughly grouped according to dialect of the Latmul language as well as sociocultural affinities.
