Woven Bird Totem, Abelam people, Papua New Guinea

The Abelam have complex creations inside and outside the Men's Spirit House during important ceremonies. Especially initiation of young men. Sudh woven figures can be part of this elaborate production. It represents a parrot or cockatoo totem.
