Masque à igname collecté dans le village de Maprik en Papouasie Nouvelle Guinée. Les masques à ignames servent à costumer les plus belles ignames selectionnées au moment de la récolte. Ce masque en vannerie représente la tête de l'igname, manière très symbolique de prouver que ces tubercules sacrés ont bien une âme... La forme très particulière de ce spécimen semble avoir servi plutôt comme une coiffe, apposée sur l'extrémité d'un tubercule.

Vendu avec un socle de présentation. Yam mask collected in the village of Maprik in Papua New Guinea. Yam masks are used to dress up the most beautiful yams selected at harvest time. This basketwork mask represents the head of the yam, a very symbolic way of proving that these sacred tubers do indeed have a soul... The very particular shape of this specimen seems to have served rather as a cap, affixed to the end of a tuber.
