Yipwon cult figure, karawari river, papua new guinea, oceanic tribal art

Fragment de figure de culte Yipwon. Les yipwons sont des personnages puissants que l'on invoque avant de partir à la chasse ou à la guerre. L'esprit du Yipwon ainsi appelé, va chercher, trouver et enfin guider le chasseur jusqu'à sa proie. La taille de ces objets varie de quelques centimètres à environ deux mètres. Les yipwon ne sont présents que dans les régions traversées par les rivières Blackwater, karawari et Korosameri.

The size of these objects vary some centimeters in approximately two meters. We find them only in regions crossed by rivers Blackwater, karawari and Korosameri.
